Handmade in Sri Lanka from discarded coconut shells and palm wood handles, each piece is beautifully unique, with its natural, raw finish left untouched. The timber from its tall, graceful tree becomes furniture and flooring, its oil is massaged into hair to encourage growth, its tough fibres are woven into brooms, carpets, and ropes. And then there are the shells...

What are coconut shell spoons (Polkatu Handi) used for? Coconut shell spoons are the go-to utensil in kitchens across Sri Lanka, prized for their durability and natural heat resistance. For generations, these spoons have been handmade - sometimes by local artisans, sometimes in the family home. They’re ideal for cooking and serving rice, gravies, and hearty curries, and their simple, rustic design connects every meal to centuries of tradition.
