Techniques & Blending
These stick crayons are particularly wide and thick, making them durable and less prone to snapping than conventional crayons. Their shape allows both generous surface colouring and more controlled line work. They can be sharpened using a wide crayon sharpener, allowing you to refine the tip for detailed drawing after extended use.

Colours can be layered so that the shade beneath shimmers through the layer above, creating optical colour mixing and subtle tonal variation. By adjusting pressure and direction, subtle shifts in bark, soil, fur, feathers and skin can be achieved from just a few tones. Each set includes a scraping tool, enabling hatched designs, etched detail and the careful revealing of colours layered beneath, a technique often used in Waldorf-inspired art lessons.

Stockmar wax crayons are water-resistant, making them ideal for use alongside watercolour paints. Crayons can be used to create highlights and resist effects beneath transparent washes.
