Easy to fold 5 pointed origami stars make beautiful Christmas decorations to decorate your tree. They can be made from recycled paper, magazines, sheet music - or how about paper chocolate wrappers? In this tutorial, Judy is going to show us how to make origami stars from Tony's Chocolonely wrappers to make beautiful decorations.

This Christmas craft is a lovely mindful activity for older children and makes use of paper chocolate wrappers. In Japan, origami stars are a special gift representing love and good luck.

Step By Step Guide To Making Origami Stars

All you need to create an origami star is a pair of scissors and a square piece of paper. It may look complicated at first, but once you've done one or two it really is quite easy! Your finished star will be approx. 60% the size of your original square piece of paper.

The first stage involves creating a pentagon from your Tony's wrapper:

First you need to make a square from your Tony's wrapper to get clean edges.

Fold in half, and bring in the corners as shown, then fold flat again.

Bring the other corner into the centre of your X, and the other lower corner to meet it to create an arrow shape.

Then fold in half again where the edges meet along the centre and cut as shown, unfold to reveal your pentagon.

Now that you have your pentagon, you can fold your star!

Firstly, make sure you have well defined folds to all your star points. Then bring your pentagon edges into the centre and back, repeating on each edge.

This is the tricky part! Using the folds as a guide you want to bring your star together, working your way around to collapse it inwards. Once your star is together, flip over and bring the corners of the pentagon to the centre.

Continue working your way around the pentagon until all your points are made, tucking in the last corner. Well done - time for a chocolate break!
