In Sweden this craft is known as halmslöjd, a traditional folk art where straw is shaped and tied together to create beautiful decorations. Straw stars, hanging mobiles, wreaths and small animals are especially popular during the winter season and at Christmas.
Traditional Scandinavian Straw Craft
Straw crafting has been part of Scandinavian decorative traditions for centuries. By combining simple natural materials such as straw, thread and sometimes wooden beads, intricate geometric designs and ornaments can be created.
The long, straight fibres of flax straw make it particularly suitable for this type of craft, as the straws are strong yet flexible when prepared correctly.
How to Use Flax Straws for Crafting
Before shaping the straw, it should be soaked in water for at least one hour. This softens the fibres and allows the straw to bend without snapping.
Once softened, the straws can be folded, woven, threaded or tied together to create a wide range of shapes including:

- miniature structures and shelters

Here at Babipur we aim to despatch your orders quickly using Royal Mail, Parcelforce, GLS and other couriers. We pack orders Monday to Saturday, if you need an express delivery option we recommend ordering before 1pm for next working day delivery. Tracking details will be sent to you by email or text.
Returns
If something isn't as expected, doesn't fit, or it's simply not right for you, just return it to us within 60 days of delivery for a no quibble refund. We do ask that items are returned in unused condition if you've simply changed your mind. If you have a faulty or damaged item please get in touch, return it to us for a refund or replacement and we'll cover the return costs.
