Triclimb began the way so many Babipur ideas do, with a need, a conversation, and a “what if.”
When we were sourcing toys and play equipment for Babipur, we wanted to offer a climbing frame that was simple, beautiful, and safe. But at the time, there wasn’t one that met proper toy safety standards. The few we found wouldn’t have passed testing. So rather than compromise, we decided to make one.
Together with Christine Dunford, a talented and highly respected designer, we started from scratch. Christine understood exactly what we wanted to achieve, a strong, stable, and timeless piece of play equipment rooted in the Pikler philosophy of natural movement and self-led exploration, but designed for modern family life and tested to the highest standards.
Designed with care and expertise
Christine’s background is in furniture design and craftsmanship. Originally from Northern Ireland, she studied Furniture Design and Craftsmanship, later completing both a Bachelor’s and Master’s in Furniture Design and Technology in England. She went on to work at a design consultancy in London before moving to Wales, where she taught Design and Technology (D&T) and continued designing products and furniture.
That combination of professional design experience and a deep understanding of how children engage with materials and space shines through in Triclimb. Every curve, rung, and joint has been thought through, from the thickness of the rungs and the flat top for stability, to the self-supporting structure that folds flat safely without any tools.
Christine brings a unique perspective as a female designer in a field still largely dominated by men. Her approach is both practical and empathetic, informed by craftsmanship and a genuine understanding of how design shapes behaviour and confidence.
Made in Wales and Italy
Triclimb is made using high-quality components produced in Wales and Italy. The design and final assembly take place here in Wales, with every piece built to be strong, stable, and beautiful, a toy that becomes part of the home rather than something to be put away.
The Miri slide is made entirely in Wales and connects securely to Triclimb without tools. It can be used as a slide, ramp, climbing wall, or bridge. The holes on the climbing wall side are carefully designed for small fingers and toes to grip, encouraging natural, tactile climbing. The Miri sticks can be added for variety, slotting into the holes for extra challenge and later doubling up for ball runs and creative play.
Triclimb and Miri are made from marine-grade FSC/PEFC-certified birch plywood, finished with a safe water-based lacquer, and independently tested to meet UK, EU, and worldwide toy safety standards.
Recognised for design and learning
Triclimb has been recognised by the Young V&A Museum, where it now sits as part of their collection celebrating iconic toys that support child development and creativity (accession no. B.9-2024).
We have also been proud to collaborate with Bangor University, after they approached us to explore the relationship between play, movement, and self-initiated development in early childhood. This partnership helps deepen understanding of how children learn through climbing, balance, and free movement, something that has always been at the heart of Triclimb.
Made for movement, designed for childhood
From baby gym to toddler climbing frame, Triclimb grows with your child, encouraging strength, balance, and confidence at their own pace. It is a piece that invites years of use and discovery, and one that can be passed on through generations.
Triclimb was not made to follow trends. It was made to last.
Designed by Christine Dunford, created by people who care deeply about childhood, and made between Wales and Italy with pride and precision.
