We’re really happy to be introducing Zaytoun at Babipur. Zaytoun is a social enterprise that has been working with Palestinian farmers and producers since 2004, creating links through Fair Trade. At a time when so many livelihoods are under threat, choosing these products is a simple but powerful way of showing support and solidarity.
We’re starting with two very special products.
Nablus Soap is one of the oldest soaps in the world. The city of Nablus was once home to dozens of soap factories, with recipes going back to the 10th century. Today only two remain. The Tbeleh family has been making soap for over 400 years and continue to do so by hand. Each bar is made with olive oil and just a few other natural ingredients, which makes it pure, gentle on skin and fully biodegradable. It’s not only a beautiful soap, it also carries centuries of tradition and resilience in every bar.

Dead Sea Bath Salts come from the Hallak family, the only Palestinian producers with harvesting rights on the Dead Sea. They have been working the shores since 1960 and have held on to this craft through constant pressure. These salts are packed with natural minerals like magnesium, calcium and potassium that ease sore muscles and soften skin. Choosing them helps keep alive a practice that might otherwise be lost.
Many Dead Sea products you see on the high street are linked to companies operating in illegal Israeli settlements, taking resources from occupied Palestinian land without benefiting the local communities. By contrast, Zaytoun’s Dead Sea Bath Salts come from the Hallak family in Jericho, who have held harvesting rights since 1960. Choosing their salts means you can enjoy the natural minerals of the Dead Sea while directly supporting Palestinian producers, heritage and livelihoods.

For us at Babipur, Fair Trade has always been about more than just paying a fair price. It is about dignity, rights and giving producers a chance to thrive in difficult circumstances. Farmers in Palestine face restrictions on movement, access to their own land and water, and the impact of an illegal occupation that makes everyday life a struggle. Yet they continue to grow, make and create. Buying Fair Trade products like these is one way we can stand with them, supporting livelihoods and keeping these traditions going for future generations.
We are starting with these two products and we hope to expand the range in the near future. Every purchase is a small act of solidarity, a way of saying that these voices and communities matter.
