Bajo Wooden Wobbling Dwarf Roly-Poly Toy

The Bajo Wobbling Dwarf is a traditional wooden roly-poly toy with a rounded weighted base, designed to rock, wobble and spring back upright when little hands push it over. Give the cheerful dwarf a nudge and watch him sway from side to side, tip and wobble before returning to centre, ready to be pushed all over again.

There is a reason these wibbly-wobbly toys have been around for generations. The action is wonderfully simple and very tempting to repeat: push, watch, wait for the dwarf to come back, then try again. Children can experiment with a tiny tap, a bigger shove or pushing him in different directions and watch how the movement changes each time.

That repeated wobbling makes this a lovely early cause and effect toy. A child makes something happen with their own movement and gets an immediate, visible response, helping them begin to connect their actions with what happens next. Watching the dwarf sweep from side to side also encourages visual tracking, while reaching out to push him again brings hand-eye coordination and purposeful movement into the play.

As children become more confident sitting and moving independently, the Wobbling Dwarf invites plenty of reaching, stretching and movement too. Set him wobbling just within reach and there is every reason to lean forwards and have another go. Bajo describes the toy as supporting sensory and motor development as well as perseverance through play.

It is also a lovely introduction to some very simple early physics. Children do not need to know anything about balance, weight or gravity to begin experimenting with them. However far the dwarf appears to fall, its rounded weighted design brings it back upright, making the same little toy interesting to prod, investigate and test again and again.

There is something pleasingly traditional about it too. Roly-poly toys, wobblers and wańka-wstańka toys have been childhood favourites for generations, with very little required beyond a child wondering, "What happens if I push it again?" Bajo gives that familiar idea its own chunky wooden character, with a bright red pointed hat, friendly painted face and rounded blue base.

Made in Poland from beech wood, the Bajo Wobbling Dwarf is finished using water-based, non-toxic paints certified to EN71 toy safety standards. Bajo uses European materials from certified suppliers and makes its toys in Poland using sustainably sourced wood.

Bajo Toys

Bajo's beautiful wooden toys have been designed and manufactured in Poland over the last 25 years. These top notch toys are wonderfully tactile and will inspire imaginative play and learning. The manufacturing process is green from start to finish - sustainable wood from beech, birch, sycamore, acacia, cherry, walnut and plum trees is sourced from carefully managed forests in Poland. Skilled crafters transform the wood into toys that are treated with eco, non-toxic paints and oils, and waste wood is turned into fuel briquettes. Bajo toys are great for open-ended play and will be treasured by children for years before being passed on to new generations to be enjoyed all over again.
Bajo Toys
A Brief Bajo Story

A Brief Bajo Story

Established in the tiny village of Kamionna in Poland, at the foot of the mountain bearing the same name, Bajo were making toys at the break of the '90s when the free market was virtually non-existent in Poland. Bajo produce toys that can be made without the need for specialised skills, in order to employ elderly and disabled individuals, as well as people who find it difficult to compete for work. The toys they make carry notion of solidarity in themselves. In the design process they always focus on the possibilities of reaching out to new people.
