Grimm’s Large Stepped Counting Blocks | Counting by Colour

The Grimm’s Large Stepped Counting Blocks are a beautifully made wooden maths resource that helps children explore number in a visual, tangible way. This 100-piece set sits in a wooden tray in rows of ten, with each row taller than the one before it to create a clear stepped effect. This makes it easier for children to compare values and understand number through size, height, colour, and pattern.

These blocks are ideal for counting, sequencing, adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing, but they are far more than a traditional maths toy. Children can sort them by colour and size, build patterns, compare heights, and use them as open-ended blocks for structures, towns, landscapes, and imaginative play. This combination of mathematical clarity and creative freedom gives the set real long-term value.

This set is part of Grimm’s World of Numbers, a connected range where each number from 1 to 10 keeps the same colour across compatible toys. The smallest teal blocks represent 1, and the rows continue through the colour sequence up to the tallest navy blue blocks representing 10. That means the Large Stepped Counting Blocks combine beautifully with other Grimm’s Counting by Colour toys, helping children build a wider hands-on maths resource world where the same colours always represent the same values.

Made from lime wood and finished with water-based colour stain, the blocks have the tactile, velvety feel that makes Grimm’s toys so distinctive. The translucent finish allows the natural grain of the wood to remain visible, giving each piece warmth and character.

Babipur has stocked Grimm’s since 2015, and we know why their educational wooden toys are so loved by families, teachers, and home educators. As a trusted UK specialist in Waldorf-inspired, Montessori-friendly, open-ended wooden toys, Babipur is a brilliant place to build your Grimm’s World of Numbers collection.

Grimm's Toys

Featuring toys to shake, build or pull along, Babi Pur’s range of Grimm’s Waldorf-inspired toys has something for every child to fall in love with. The quality of these toys is superb and their appeal is timeless – we’re sure that they will be treasured not only by your children but by your grandchildren too. Grimm’s Toys are inspired by the Waldorf Steiner education movement which advocates learning through thoughtful, creative play at an unhurried pace. Toys play an important part of the learning experience and Waldorf toys are made with natural materials, beautiful and simplistic – the lack of details allow children to fill in the blanks with their imaginations. They can be used in multiple ways in creative play scenarios, rather than being prescriptive. Waldorf toys are wonderfully tactile and call on children to play with them.

Sustainably Made Natural Toys

Grimm’s educational wooden toys are made in Europe from alder, lime, beech and maple, all sourced from sustainably managed European forests. They are made in handpicked workshops across Europe and coated with natural colours and oils by the Grimm’s team in Germany. All of the paints and lacquer used to finish your lovingly made Grimm’s toy are harmless and enhance the natural beauty of the wood, allowing the grain to shine through.
