PlanToys Shape & Sort It Out Wooden Montessori Shape Sorter 12m+

The PlanToys Shape & Sort It Out Bin is a beautifully made wooden shape sorter for babies and toddlers from 12 months, with three colourful solid wood shapes to match and post through the corresponding openings in the lid. A red cylinder, blue cube and yellow triangular shape introduce simple geometry and colour while little hands work out which piece fits where.

This is a classic early-learning activity made particularly lovely by the PlanToys design. Children can grasp and turn each chunky piece, compare it with the openings and experiment until they find the right match. It brings together shape recognition, colour recognition, hand-eye coordination, spatial awareness and early problem solving, with plenty of trial and error as children learn that turning a piece can make all the difference. PlanToys also highlights mathematical thinking, visual development, coordination, language and communication, problem solving and cause and effect for this toy.

There is a little object permanence within the play too. Once a shape drops through the lid it disappears from sight, then children can remove the top and discover all three pieces waiting inside. It adds that satisfying find-and-repeat element that babies and toddlers love, while allowing them to reset the activity themselves.

The removable lid also opens up the play beyond shape sorting. Children can fill and empty the bin, collect the pieces, practise putting things in and taking them out, or use it to store the shapes and other small play resources between uses. PlanToys specifically designed the lid to lift off so children can retrieve the pieces easily.

It is a lovely Montessori-inspired activity, with a clear purpose, hands-on problem solving and an immediate result. Children can repeat the same action at their own pace, developing concentration, coordination and confidence as matching the shapes gradually becomes more deliberate.

The softly rounded bin is made using PlanToys' bentwood process, which is one of the nicest details of this toy. In the PlanToys factory, rubberwood is peeled into thin layers, bonded and curved into shape to create the smooth sides and rounded corners. PlanToys specifically identifies the Shape & Sort It Out Bin as using this bentwood construction.

PlanToys uses reclaimed rubberwood from trees at the end of their latex-producing life, water-based dyes, organic pigments and its no-added-formaldehyde adhesive in its wooden toy production.

It would make a lovely first birthday gift, particularly for a child beginning to enjoy posting toys, puzzles, filling and emptying, and working out how objects fit together.

Here at Babipur we aim to despatch your orders quickly using Royal Mail, Parcelforce, GLS and other couriers. We pack orders Monday to Saturday, if you need an express delivery option we recommend ordering before 1pm for next working day delivery. Tracking details will be sent to you by email or text.

Returns

If something isn't as expected, doesn't fit, or it's simply not right for you, just return it to us within 60 days of delivery for a no quibble refund. We do ask that items are returned in unused condition if you've simply changed your mind. If you have a faulty or damaged item please get in touch, return it to us for a refund or replacement and we'll cover the return costs.
