Where The Forest Once Stood - Children's Poetry Anthology by Julie Hare

Can a poem change how we see the planet? Where the Forest Once Stood by Julie Hare is a vibrant collection of children’s poems that celebrates the wonder of the natural world while challenging us to protect it. Illustrated by Darwin Setiawan, the anthology invites readers aged 5–12 to explore forests, oceans, and wildlife through playful verse, poignant reflection, and inventive poetic forms.

Julie’s love for the natural world shines through every page, inspired by her own family’s adventures in the woods and her lifelong passion for wildlife and education. At its heart, Where the Forest Once Stood nurtures children’s innate curiosity about nature and their sense of responsibility to care for it.

About the Author: Julie Hare

Julie Hare lives in the Waveney Valley in Norfolk with her husband and two children. An educator, writer, and lifelong nature enthusiast, she has worked as a teacher, produces teaching materials for Literacy Shed, and supports her local school as a governor. Julie is also training to be a Climate Ambassador and is passionate about inspiring environmental awareness in young people.

A keen explorer of the natural world, Julie has travelled through Australia and Asia studying wildlife, and at home can often be found in the woods with her children, turning over logs and rocks in search of tiny creatures.
