Going plastic free in the kitchen can seem a daunting task, but by breaking it down in to manageable steps we can all reduce our waste and cut out a lot of the single use plastic we throw away. From cleaning products to food packaging it can feel like a constant stream of unnecessary plastic entering our homes. We've got 5 low waste kitchen swaps that are quick, easy and convenient to set you on the road to plastic freedom. These plastic free swaps don't need to be made all at once, simply switch out as your current products reach the end of life. All these products we personally use daily at home, they're tried tested and once you switch you'll never go back! Let's take a look..

1. Eco Coconut Scourer

You know those green plastic sponge scourers that you think you can't live without? Well, we have just the alternative to change your mind. Eco Coconut scourers are probably THE most recommended plastic free kitchen swap by our community.

Made from natural coconut fibres, they're incredibly durable and long-lasting and great for cleaning pans and roasting tins. And, they won't shed harmful microplastics into the waterways every time you use them. They're non-scratch and can be composted when they've finally given up, but you could be waiting a long time as they last for around a year!

Have a plastic free cuppa by choosing loose tea and a stainless steel tea infuser or reusable tea bags. Many teabags contain polypropylene in the outer bag, so by using loose tea you can guarantee a totally plastic free brew. Add your favourite loose tea blend to a strainer, then empty out in the compost bin when you're finished.

Ok, I know we said five plastic free kitchen swaps, consider this your bonus! Mineral bleach is brilliant for cleaning and a great alternative to chlorine bleach. It's a natural cleaning agent made from pure percarbonate of soda. Activate in hot water to use, it safely breaks down into oxygen, water and sodium carbonate.

Add a scoop of Violets mineral bleach to your laundry wash to freshen nappies, use to brighten and remove stains from clothing, and clean stubborn tea stains from your reusable bottle.
